This Incredible Herb, is a relative of Thyme and is highly used in the Mediterranean Cuisine. It is a small plant which is located in dry and rocky areas and is one of the common smells you get to experience when out in the Cyprus nature.

 

Well known from ancient years, "Throubi" (the cypriot name) was used to treat several diseases and as a flavoring in cooking. The leaves of "Throubi" are used in various foods to add aroma but also because of their antitoxic properties. Until today it is one of the best spices for meat (e.g. lamb), as well as mollusc (e.g. octopus) and vegetables.

 

"Throubi" is a good appetizer with a beneficial effect on weakness and debility of the stomach. It also helps digestion. It is considered a stimulant and tonic and acts against mental and physical fatigue, helps asthma, nausea , kidney stones and diarrhea and even kills bacteria germs and fungus. It acts as a sedative in rheumatic arthritic pains. It stimulates brain function, adrenal function and thus sexual desire. Energises a tired mind and revives the senses. Calms the nerves, counteracts melancholy and shyness. As a general conclusion savory is famous for its energizing effect on stamina.
